Welcome to the Shavian alphabet course. If you're here, you likely have some knowledge of its history and unique features. Let's dive into how Shavian works.
The Shavian alphabet includes 40 distinct characters and 8 compound characters, each linked to a specific English sound. This direct mapping does away with complex spelling and phonetic rules of English, such as the "I before E except after C" rule. Shavian achieves this by introducing a completely new set of characters that donβt resemble any Latin characters, introducing a new way to write English.
This course consists of ten lessons, each centered on a group of Shavian characters, sorted by the frequency of their sounds. Each lesson provides explanations of the characters and their sounds, along with tips for memorization. We reinforce each character's sound immediately after introducing it. The lesson then concludes with varied exercises designed to give you more practice reading and writing in Shavian.
By the end of this course, you will be able to read and write in Shavian. You can then join communities on Reddit and Discord, or explore Shavian texts to continue learning and practicing on your own.
